A Common Question: Is Genital Warts Curable?
You just discovered that you have genital warts and now you want to know the answer to the question: “Is Genital Warts Curable?”
In short, the answer to this question is no.
Do not start to panic. This does not mean that you will always have the annoying, dirty little lumps on your genital area. It is possible to get rid of the actual warts. Many people will actually only have one outbreak of warts in their lives and will never again have one.
You may be a bit confused at this stage. If genital warts are not curable, then why is it possible to get rid of them?
Here is the basic information about genital warts and how you get them.
Genital warts are cause by Human Papillomavirus also know as HPV. This is a common and contagious virus with over 100 possible strains. Strains of this virus are responsible for warts, genital warts and cervical cancer.
Once you contract this virus, it is not possible to get rid of it. Unfortunately, it is a very easy virust to contract and you can get it from something as simple as skin to skin contact.
Here is the good news.
There are 2 forms of the virus: Active and dormant. With the strain of the virus that causes genital warts, when the virus is in its active phase, it is producing proteins that are responsible for the development of the warts on your genital area. As long as these proteins are being produced, you will continue to develop warts on your genitals.
When the virus is in its dormant phase, it is technically inactive. It is not producing any proteind and therefore it will not cause genital warts to develop.
If you can push the virus into its dormant phase, then you will not develop any warts.
How to push HPV into its dormant phase.
Your immune system is the main factor that is responsible for pushing the virus into its dormant phase. If you have a healthy immune system, it will fight against the virus and when it is successful in the fight, the virus will be dormant. So, if you discover that you have genital warts you should do things that will boost your immune system. You can take Echinacea, eat healthily, exercise, reduce alcohol intake and quit smoking.
It has also been shown that removing the warts that are present will reduce the persistence of HPV DNA in genital tissue, and therefore may reduce infectivity and push the virus into its dormant phase.
